Anthony Stirling 83e5319661 Reduce CI cost: disable Depot, gate arm64/Tauri PR builds, self-testing CI routing (#7028)
## What

CI cost/routing cleanup. Four changes, each reversible with no code
deleted.

### 1. Disable Depot repo-wide (reversible)
Depot ran on trusted (non-fork) triggers via the `is_fork` output of
`_runner-pick.yml`, driving both the `depot-*` runner selection and the
Depot docker build actions. It's now disabled everywhere behind a single
kill-switch:

- `_runner-pick.yml` gains a dedicated `use_depot` output, forced
`false` via `DEPOT_ENABLED=false`. `is_fork` stays truthful for trust
gating (e.g. `build-enterprise` skipping on forks).
- All `runs-on:` and `USE_DEPOT:` expressions now key off `use_depot`,
so every job falls back to `ubuntu-latest` + buildx.
- `settings.gradle` Depot remote build cache (`cache.depot.dev`) gated
behind `depotCacheEnabled = false`.

**Switch back on:** set `DEPOT_ENABLED=true` in `_runner-pick.yml` (and
`depotCacheEnabled = true` in `settings.gradle`). Depot then reactivates
on trusted triggers exactly as before.

### 2. arm64 PR docker build only on Dockerfile changes
`test-build-docker.yml` was building `linux/amd64,linux/arm64/v8` on
every PR matching the broad `project` filter. With Depot off, the arm64
leg runs under slow QEMU emulation on every code PR. New `dockerfiles`
path filter (`docker/**/Dockerfile*`) gates the arm64 leg: normal code
PRs build amd64 only; PRs that touch a Dockerfile still build amd64 +
arm64. arm64 is still fully exercised on the base-image publish and on
release.

### 3. Tauri PR build -> Linux only, unsigned, deb-only
The PR path built the full 3-OS matrix (Windows + macOS-universal +
Linux), plus the flaky Linux AppImage pass (#6127). PRs now build Linux
only (fastest + cheapest to compile) via a new `minimal` input on
`tauri-build.yml`: Linux deb only, no rpm, no AppImage. The full signed
multi-OS matrix still runs on release, and nightly still warms the Rust
cache with all-OS defaults (unchanged).

Tradeoff: Windows/macOS desktop build breaks are caught by nightly
(all-OS) rather than the introducing PR.

### 4. CI self-testing routing
Editing `build.yml` only matched the `project` filter, so a change to
how e2e / enterprise / tauri / engine jobs are dispatched didn't
actually run those jobs. Added a `ci` anchor (`build.yml` +
`.github/config/.files.yaml`) that every job-gating area filter now
includes, so editing the router or the filter config runs every job.
Also added the orphaned reusable workflows (`e2e-*`,
`frontend-validation`, `docker-compose-tests`, `test-build-docker`,
`check-openapi`, `check-licence`) to their area filters so editing a
reusable workflow self-tests.

## Validation
- All workflow YAML + `.files.yaml` parse; anchor resolution verified
(every job-gating filter resolves to include the `ci` paths).
- Gradle evaluates `settings.gradle` cleanly; `spotlessGradleCheck`
passes.

Ludy 8bb807471f chore(ci): enable Gradle dependency caching across GitHub workflows (#5400)
# Description of Changes

This pull request updates the CI/CD workflows and Gradle configuration
to improve build reproducibility, security, and external dependency
management. The main changes include standardizing Gradle setup across
workflows, securely injecting Maven credentials, and enabling Gradle
build caching. There are also minor improvements to dependency version
management and plugin repository configuration.

**CI/CD Workflow Improvements:**

- Standardized Gradle setup across all GitHub Actions workflows by
explicitly adding a `Setup Gradle` step using
`gradle/actions/setup-gradle@v5.0.0` and specifying Gradle version 8.14.
This replaces previous usages and ensures consistency.

commands in workflows, improving build performance and consistency. Also
removed unnecessary `clean` commands before builds to further optimize
workflow times.

**Security and Dependency Management:**

- Injected Maven credentials (`MAVEN_USER`, `MAVEN_PASSWORD`,
`MAVEN_PUBLIC_URL`) as environment variables in all relevant workflow
steps, supporting secure access to private or custom Maven repositories.

- Added a `pluginManagement` block in `settings.gradle` to allow Gradle
plugins to be resolved from a custom Maven repository if specified by
environment variables, increasing flexibility for plugin sourcing.

**Build and Dependency Versioning:**

- Updated `app/proprietary/build.gradle` to use the
`bouncycastleVersion` variable for the Bouncy Castle dependency version,
improving maintainability and consistency of dependency versioning.

**Workflow Trigger Improvements:**

- Expanded the file path triggers in
`.github/workflows/sync_files_v2.yml` to include additional Gradle build
files, ensuring the workflow runs when any core build files are changed.

Ludy 299d52c517 refactor: move modules under app/ directory and update file paths (#3938)
# Description of Changes

- **What was changed:**
- Renamed top-level directories: `stirling-pdf` → `app/core`, `common` →
`app/common`, `proprietary` → `app/proprietary`.
- Updated all path references in `.gitattributes`, GitHub workflows
(`.github/workflows/*`), scripts (`.github/scripts/*`), `.gitignore`,
Dockerfiles, license files, and template settings to reflect the new
structure.
- Added a new CI job `check-generateOpenApiDocs` to generate and upload
OpenAPI documentation.
- Removed redundant `@Autowired` annotations from `TempFileShutdownHook`
and `UnlockPDFFormsController`.
- Minor formatting and comment adjustments in YAML templates and
resource files.

- **Why the change was made:**
- To introduce a clear `app/` directory hierarchy for core, common, and
proprietary modules, improving organization and maintainability.
- To ensure continuous integration and Docker builds continue to work
seamlessly with the reorganized structure.
- To automate OpenAPI documentation generation as part of the CI
pipeline.

Ludy 0b81dfdf7c Upgrade Gradle to 8.14 in CI Workflows and Gradle Wrapper (#3425)
# Description of Changes

This pull request upgrades the Gradle build system from version 8.12 to
8.14 across the Stirling-PDF project to enhance build stability,
compatibility, and performance. The changes include:

- **What was changed**:
- Updated the Gradle wrapper version in
`gradle/wrapper/gradle-wrapper.properties` from `8.12` to `8.14`.
- Modified the `tasks.wrapper` configuration in `build.gradle` to
specify `gradleVersion = "8.14"`.
- Updated Gradle version references in GitHub Actions workflows
(`multiOSReleases.yml`, `push-docker.yml`, `releaseArtifacts.yml`) from
`8.12` to `8.14` to ensure consistent CI/CD builds.

- **Why the change was made**:
- Gradle 8.14 includes bug fixes, performance improvements, and enhanced
compatibility with newer JDK versions (e.g., Java 17 and 21, as
supported by Stirling-PDF).
- Ensures alignment with the latest Gradle features and security
patches, reducing potential build issues in development and CI/CD
environments.
- Supports the project's recommendation to use newer JDK versions (e.g.,
Java 21) and improves integration with the Foojay Toolchains Plugin.

- **Challenges encountered**:
- Verified compatibility of Gradle 8.14 with existing plugins (e.g.,
`org.springframework.boot`, `org.sonarqube`, `com.diffplug.spotless`) to
ensure no breaking changes.
- Tested CI/CD workflows to confirm that the updated Gradle version does
not introduce failures in build, test, or deployment pipelines.
- Ensured the Gradle wrapper distribution URL is correctly updated to
avoid download issues.
